Interview at Stonegate Group

Interviews are a two-way street. While they give us the opportunity to get to know you beyond what’s written on your CV - how you think, communicate, solve problems, and how your experience might fit within the team - they’re equally a chance for you to get a deeper understanding of us. It’s your time to explore what the role involves day-to-day, what it’s like to work here, and learn more about our values and company culture.

We want the experience to be as open and informative as possible, so please don’t hesitate during the interview process to ask questions - whether they’re about the role, the team, career development, or anything else that matters to you.

Interviews

If you require any reasonable adjustments during the interview process, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and let us know how we might be able to help you be your authentic self. We will always try to be as supportive as possible.

For pub, bar and venue-based roles, please contact the site directly.

For Pub Support Team and General Manager roles, please email us at recruitment.support@stonegategroup.co.uk.

If you are no longer able to attend your interview, please let us know as soon as possible so we can make any necessary arrangements. We completely understand that things can change, so if you need to reschedule then please let us know as early as you can, and if it’s possible to rearrange then we’ll do our best to find a new time that works for everyone involved.

For interviews taking place for a role at one of our pubs, bars, or venues, please contact the site directly to inform them if you are no longer able to attend. For all other interviews - such as those for roles in our Pub Support Team - please get in touch with either the Recruitment Manager or the hiring manager.

This will depend on the role and where it is based.

For our pub, bar and venue jobs all interviews are in person at the location you are applying to for a job.

For our Pub Support Team and General Manager positions, this can vary. You may have an initial screening call with one of the Recruitment team, followed by either a video interview or an in person interview - or a combination of both.

The Recruitment Manager or hiring manager will be able to advise you of this at the beginning of the process, as well as letting you know approximate timescales and how many interview stages there will be. We endeavour to give you as much notice before an interview as possible, to allow you time to prepare.

For both in person and virtual interviews, we encourage smart-casual attire, but feel free to dress in a way that makes you feel confident and comfortable.

If your interview includes a task or presentation, we’ll make sure you’re given clear, detailed instructions along with plenty of time to prepare. We want you to feel confident and set up for success, so you’ll know exactly what’s expected and how best to showcase your skills.

If no task or presentation is required, we still recommend taking some time to review the job description carefully. Think about how your skills, experience, and achievements relate to what we’re looking for, and be ready to talk about them during the interview. It’s also helpful to consider any examples that demonstrate your strengths and how you’ve added value in previous roles.

We’d also suggest taking a look at our website ahead of your interview to make yourself familiar with Stonegate Group. Check out our Stonegate Values to see how your own personal values align with ours, we often ask questions around our values!

Don't forget to bring your own questions too!

If you are invited for an in person interview then we’d advise you to plan ahead and consider your route and travel options to make sure that you arrive in plenty of time.

You will be given full address details to your interview location by either a Recruitment Manager or the hiring manager, along with any other details that you’ll need.

Please feel free to bring a notepad with you to the interview too, to jot down any questions that you may have.
If you are invited to a virtual interview then we’d advise you to test your internet connection beforehand and check that your camera and microphone are working well. Make sure your device is stable and placed on a desk or stand, rather than using your phone.

Choose a quiet, well-lit space that’s free from clutter, and minimise distractions by turning off notifications and letting others in your household know you’ll be in an interview. Treat the interview as you would do with an in person meeting, and dress professionally.

You’ll receive an update from the Recruitment team or hiring manager as soon as possible. If you’re successful, we’ll discuss next steps including offer details and onboarding.

If your application is not successful on this occasion, we’ll be in touch to let you know.
