As the largest hospitality company in the UK, Stonegate Group is constantly adapting to a fast-moving market, and the Estates function sits right at the heart of shaping the way in which we work.
With over 4,000 pubs, bars and properties, this team is focussed on maximising value, minimising costs and delivering expert advice and support to our Operations teams to promote effective estate management.
Sitting with the Strategy function, this team plays a crucial role in identifying opportunities; whether that’s redeveloping sites, releasing surplus land or enabling new income streams such as convenience retail or EV charging.
“What I enjoy most about my role is the variety. We support a number of stakeholders across the business, and daily I am liaising solicitors, agents, contractors, and other internal departments. The variety of the role keeps each day interesting. Attending off-site Estates team meetings adds another dimension that I find both rewarding and motivating."
Joanne Barr, Estates Governance Coordinator
James Harrison, Director of Estates says "It’s been a journey of massive expansion over the past few years. Sitting in the Strategy team means we can work proactively, use data to become more comfortable taking calculated risks, and gain a whole load of insight into why decisions are being made. We spend a lot of time with the Operations Directors to help understand where we can support them—whether that means identifying sites that require additional support, determining if a site would be more financially viable in a different format, or ultimately deciding if it should be sold.
We have worked hard to build both a process and trust in our decision-making, meaning we now have a high success rate when taking proposals to the board. They trust our judgment because of our consistency in behaviour and decision-making."
Nicholas Rowland-Hill, Head of Estates, shares:
"The work within the Estates team is so diverse, and no two days are the same. We deal with everything from pub and land sales to finding various ways of extracting value from our large estate. We are a great team of motivated and dynamic individuals, all of whom love this interesting and often exciting work."
When asked about the team, Charlotte O'Keeffe, Estates Governance Officer said 'The Estates Team is a highly motivated and dynamic group of property professionals who collectively manage all estate issues for a portfolio of more than 4,000 pubs, bars and non-licensed properties. The team brings together a wide range of expertise and are focused on adding value, maximising disposal proceeds and supporting the business operationally. One of the team's core strengths is its diversity of skills and the variety of work that comes with managing such a large and complex estate. No two days are the same. Collaboration is at the heart of the team’s culture, working closely with all colleagues and external partners, ensuring decisions are well-informed and aligned to the wider business strategy.'
Our Estates team sits within our wider Pub Support Team, who provide essential infrastructure to ensure our pubs and people have everything they need to succeed.
